Figure 2a. SimpleDICOM Wrapper. (a) Dermatologic images, obtained with a digital camera, are uploaded into the software. Appropriate metadata are assigned to the images with constrained data fields or by clicking on the homunculus at the upper right. (b) Retinal images require a different interface for incorporation and different fields for metadata. Interface customization is essential for software acceptance. (c) With respect to the display and distribution of images within the hospital PACS, nonradiologic images may appear in the PACS along with radiologic images or may be conferred special status to avoid cluttering.
