Three-dimensional VR CT image (semiopaque windowing) shows two recesses on the posterior wall of the tympanic cavity: The sinus tympani (ST) lies medial to the facial nerve recess (FNR) and indicates the position of the ampulla of the posterior semicircular canal. The pyramidal eminence (PE) is a small conical projection located between the two recesses that gives rise to the stapedius muscle. Co = cochlea.
