New RadioGraphics Section and New Editorial Board Member
William W. Olmsted, MD, Editor, RadioGraphics and Education Editor, RSNA
The subspecialty of trauma/emergency radiology has definitely come of age, as the need for special training in the management of acutely ill and traumatized patients is now well recognized. Centers of Excellence for diagnosing acute illness and treating severely traumatized patients are part of many hospitals and are crucial in saving and prolonging lives. It is time to solidify the importance of emergency radiology to the medical community and give this subspecialty a prominent place in our Society and its educational journal, RadioGraphics. This year, the RSNA Education Exhibits Committee has added a new category of exhibits for emergency radiology. To increase RSNA members exposure to this important material, I believe it is highly appropriate to establish a new, corollary subspecialty panel on the RadioGraphics Editorial Board and to provide a special place for emergency radiology in the Journal.
As of this July issue and with the approval of the RSNA Board of Directors, a new section and editorial board position devoted to trauma/emergency radiology has been created. Dr Stuart E. Mirvis, Professor of Radiology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and Director of Trauma Radiology, has agreed to accept this new editorial board position. Stu brings a wealth of experience and talent to this newly created position, and I am extremely gratified that he will join the board. I look forward to his participation and involvement as the new section is developed over the next several years.
