In the article by Rzeszotarski on counting statistics in the May-June 1999 issue of RadioGraphics (1), the author states that an elongated ruler will give consistent but long measurements. Actually, the opposite is true: An elongated ruler will give a short measurement.

I thank Dr Stiehm for identifying the mistake in my discussion of systematic errors in the article on counting statistics. Was this a blunder or a systematic error on my part?
