(a) Frontal chest radiograph obtained after one dose of surfactant and during treatment with nasal CPAP shows hyperinflated lungs with faint symmetric residual opacities. (b) Repeat radiograph, obtained after 24 hours for evaluation of sudden respiratory decompensation and bloody endotracheal aspirates, shows dense bilateral airspace consolidation.
