Figure 3.  Potential effects of excess estrogen. Clinical symptoms caused by excess estrogen vary and are dependent on the patient’s age. Excess estrogen makes the endometrium thicker owing to benign hyperplasia or cancerous proliferation. The myometrium also gets thicker with excess estrogen. These morphologic uterine changes are clinically related to atypical genital bleeding in postmenopausal women and isosexual pseudoprecocity in premenarchal girls. In women of reproductive age, it seldom causes metropathia hemorrhagica.
